چکیده

This paper reports on a software tutorial designed according to minimalist principles. The design extends minimalism beyond paper-based instructions to computer-based interface, and adopts a user-initiated layering technique to display relevant information. Evaluation confirms minimalist theory and shows that layering helps to alleviate some of the design tension between supporting learning and encouraging doing.

Layering and Wetting Transitions for an Sos Interface

We study the solid-on-solid interface model above a horizontal wall in three dimensional space, with an attractive interaction when the interface is in contact with the wall, at low temperatures. There is no bulk external field. The system presents a sequence of layering transitions, whose levels increase with the temperature, before reaching the wetting transition.

The Role of Spin Anisotropy in the Unbinding of Interfaces

We study the ground state of a classical X-Y model with p ≥ 3-fold spin anisotropy D in a uniform external field, H. An interface is introduced into the system by a suitable choice of boundary conditions. For large D, as H → 0, we prove using an expansion in D−1 that the interface unbinds from the surface through an infinite series of layering transitions. Numerical work shows that the transiti...

What causes extended layering of ionic liquids on the mica surface?

Extended layering of ionic liquids (ILs) on the mica surface has been reported by several groups previously and it is generally accepted that the electrostatic interaction at the IL/mica interface is critical to the observed extended layering. Here we report that, indeed, water adsorption on the mica surface is the key to the extended layering of ionic liquids. The atomic force microscopy (AFM)...

Liquid/liquid interface layering of 1-butanol and [bmim]PF6 ionic liquid: a nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulation study.

IR-visible sum-frequency generation (IV-SFG) vibrational spectroscopy and a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation were used to study the local layering order at the interface of 1-butanol-d9 and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim]PF6), a room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL). The presence of a local non-polar layer at the interface of the two polar liquids was successfully demon...

Effect of resin-modified glass-ionomer cement lining and composite layering technique on the adhesive interface of lateral wall

UNLABELLED Interface integrity can be maintained by setting the composite in a layering technique and using liners. OBJECTIVE The aim of this in vitro study was to verify the effect of resin-modified glass-ionomer cement (RMGIC) lining and composite layering technique on the bond strength of the dentin/resin adhesive interface of lateral walls of occlusal restorations. MATERIAL AND METHODS ...
